Our CommunityMany readers are responding that spam is too much of a headache. They have left comments to see if there are any good anti-spam plug-ins, and would like to recommend a few. I have compiled a few popular anti-spam plug-ins below, some of which we ourselves are using, you can choose the right one for you.
How to protect WordPress website from spam?
There are a variety of tools that can be used to protect websites from spam, including popular CAPTCHA services on the market such as Google reCAPTCHA and hCaptcha. especially for WordPress websites, anti-spam plug-ins can be installed to protect the website.
These include popular plugins such as WPForms and Akismet. In this article, we'll discuss these two plugins as well as some of the other more popular WordPress anti-spam plugins.
WordPress Anti-Spam Plugin
1. WPForms
WPForms is a WordPress FormsGenerator Plugin. In terms of spam prevention options offered by WPForms, I personally feel that there are few other form generators that can match it.
First of all, WPForms includes modern anti-spam protection and WPForms custom CAPTCHA fields, both of which are quite effective anti-spam tools . In fact, its free version also offers many spam blocking tools. So, if you are looking for free WordPress anti-spam plugins, WPForms is one of the best plugins out there.
In addition, CAPTCHA services such as hCaptcha and Google reCAPTCHA in WPForms can be used to enhance anti-spam defense.
WPForms also integrates with Akismet, one of my favorite WordPress anti-spam methods. While Akismet is primarily an anti-spam commenting tool, the integration with WPForms allows it to extend its spam filter to contact forms.
It is the best alternative to reCAPTCHA as it doesn't require users to solve any complex challenges to flag suspicious activity.
WPForms can also actively block spam using its country/region and keyword filters. Most other form builders do not offer a suitable alternative.
So, if you receive a lot of spam from a particular country/region or want to block submissions containing specific words, just jump to the WPForms form settings and permanently block these spam sources.
Another nice feature of WPForms is the ability to mark spam entries. This can also be enabled by flicking a toggle switch in the form's spam protection and security settings.
With this setting enabled, WPForms will mark any suspicious form entries as spam. You can view these entries and delete them. If you find any entries that are not spam, they can be deleted in the "manipulate"column and click"Non-spam".
This feature gives you better control over form entries so you don't have to worry about wasting time dealing with spam.
2. Akismet
Akismet is also one of the more popular anti-spam tools for WordPress sites. It can be used in conjunction with tools such as WPForms or on its own, and is mainly used as a way to block spam comments.
Akismet was developed by a team of people in the WordPress community, so it integrates seamlessly and usually comes pre-installed with most WordPress installations.
One of the benefits of Akismet is that it runs quietly in the background, creating a user-friendly experience while blocking spam.
Akismet Pricing: Akismet is free for nonprofit organizations and self-pay for individual users. Commercial pricing plans start at $8.33 per month, billed annually.
3. Titan Anti-Spam & Security
Titan Anti-Spam & Security is powerful WordPress spam protection and security management for WordPress websites.
The plugin checks for spam on websites by reviewing comments through its global spam database. It also uses a self-learning neural network to recheck posted comments for malicious content, constantly improving its ability to detect spam.

4. Zero Spam for WordPress
Zero Spam for WordPress is a flexible anti-spam plugin that can help block spam on your website using a variety of methods.
The plugin relies heavily on its AI algorithms to analyze and detect spam bots. It also uses Javascript to prevent bots from leaving spam on the site without affecting the user experience.
One of the best things about this plugin is that it allows you to block specific IP addresses or countries, cities, etc.
This plugin is also free to start using.
5. Antispam Bee
Antispam Bee is a relatively simple to use plugin for blocking spam on websites. The plugin works by screening suspected spam against a database of known spam entries.
When we tried it out, one feature we found particularly useful was the ability to block or only allow comments in specific languages. In addition, using Antispam Bee, it is possible to add further restrictions, such as blocking specific countries or regions.
In addition to being easy to set up, this plugin also provides a nice dashboard for monitoring spam in your WordPress admin area.
Antispam Bee is also free to use.
6. Spam Protection, AntiSpam, FireWall
Spam protection, clean talk's anti-spam firewall is one of the highest rated anti-spam plugins in the WordPress plugin directory.
In our tests, its comprehensive anti-spam protection was impressive, covering comments, forms, login pages and even forms.
This plugin runs in the background so the user experience is good while effectively protecting the form.
Spam Protection, AntiSpam, FireWall Pricing: Spam Protection, AntiSpam, FireWallA free trial is available, with paid access starting at $12 per year.
7. WP Armour
WP Armour backend works in a similar way as Akismet. If the focus is on user experience, then this plugin is also one of the anti-spam plugins worth considering.
WP Armour uses clever Javascript techniques to create a "honeypot trap". This is an extra hidden field that only bots can see. When they fill out this field, the plugin marks the content as spam and blocks it.
What we liked about WP Armour when we tried it was that it was compatible with several popular form builders, including WPForms, Gravity Forms, Elementor, and more.
WP Armour could use a free one.
Overall, each of these plugins has its own merits, and if you're looking for a plugin that's a one-stop solution for WordPress spam, WPForms is one of the more comprehensive ones out there.
