Wordfence fatal error: unknown: need to open failed

I have lost the 2FA authentication application for the site and therefore cannot authenticate when logging in. I looked online and used the advice given in a number of places, such as renaming or deleting the Wordfence folder, removing references to wordfence in .user.ini, and deleting the file wordfence-waf.php from the root folder.

After removing all links to Wordfence and removing the plugin, I now get this message (from my error log):

PHP Fatal error: Unknown: Unable to open the required "/home/xtajaiph/public_html/wordfence-waf.php" (include_path='. :/usr/local/php74/lib/php') at unknown line 0

Since I removed it from user.ini and there is no auto_prepend command in the .user.ini or .htaccess file, where does it get the call to this file?

I can't log in now?
