Avoid CuRL timeout
I have installed a WordPress instance on a server with no internet access. When trying to access wordpress.org, it times out multiple times (etc).
I've disabled automatic updates, but on the Dashboard page, the "WordPress Events and News" pane continues to try to retrieve its RSS content.
So, my question is: Is there any way to prevent WP from getting any content using cURL?
Note: I was unable to disable the php-curl module in php.ini because some other web hosts on the same server require it.
