Choose which Cloudflare plugin

I'm building my first portfolio site and would like to improve the security of the site. I've seen the Cloudflare plugin recommended and I'm wondering if it really improves security? If so, which Cloudflare plugin should I choose? Also, what are some other plugins that are good for newbies to install that will improve site performance or security? Thanks!
