The index page lists all the sitemaps for the site. Each sitemap contains different types of content. For example, above there is a sitemap for posts and a sitemap for pages.
Click each link in the index to see a list of that content.
Now that you know how to view the XML sitemap, let's look at the basic settings.
Configuring XML sitemaps
First, let's decide if we want to create an index page for the sitemap.
If the site is very small (less than a few hundred URLs) then an index page may not be needed. It is possible to continue to include the"Enable site map indexing"Set to "Disable.". Still, this is a step we don't recommend.
If in doubt, set it to "start using"Just do it.
Next, it will be determined how many URLs are listed in each sitemap.
After enabling sitemap indexing, you will see "per sitemapThe "Number of links" setting.
We have a limit of 1,000 URLs per sitemap page. If there are more than 1,000 URLs for any type of content, we split the sitemap into pages containing 1,000 URLs each.
This helps reduce the time it takes to create each sitemap, making it easy for search engines to not give up on indexing your site due to long dwell times.
You can usually keep this setting. Lower this number if it takes too long to view the sitemap page.
Next, decide what you want to include in your sitemap. There are two settings here, the Post Typecap (a poem)taxonomyThe
If you want to include everything, then you can set the"Contains all post types"cap (a poem)"Includes all taxonomies"The checkbox remains checked.
If you uncheck both checkboxes, you will see a list of all content post types and taxonomies, and can choose which content to include in the sitemap.
Important Notes: Anyone who has set theExclude from search resultsOr search inSet to no indexing under Sole AppearanceNone of the content will appear in these settings.
The last two settings are for the date archive and author archive that WordPress creates when a post is published. We don't usually include these archives in the sitemap because they have little value in search results. If you do want to include these archives in the sitemap, you can enable these settings.
