Gutenberg version 18.5 brings numerous useful updates. First of all, it provides more powerful section styling tools that allow you to customize the appearance of your content more easily. In addition, the new version adds many customization options to make content sections more personalized. Among them, the newCustomized Shadow FunctionsShadow effects can be more precisely controlled to make the page more vivid.
Even better, it's now possible to edit a block's custom fields directly inside the block, thanks to the latest update to the Block Binding API. This means that content can be managed and modified more efficiently without having to jump to another interface.
In addition to these, Gutenberg 18.5 also supports copying custom CSS between variants, allowing you to reuse style settings more easily. Also, relative theme path URLs for background images in theme.json are supported, making theme backgrounds more flexible. Finally, the new version also improves the consistency of cross-block root padding, making page layouts neater and more uniform.
Partial styles with extended block style variations
Excerpts from draft developer notes:
Section-based styling is made possible by extending the existing block styling functionality (aka block styling variants) to support styling of internal elements and blocks. These enhanced block style variants can even be applied in a nested fashion due to the uniform CSS specificity (0-1-0) of global styles, which will be introduced in WordPress 6.6.
In addition, block style changes can now be:
Simultaneous registration across multiple block types
Defined in a number of ways; in theme.json sections, in theme style variants, or by passing theme.json shaped objects in style data to existing block style registration functions
Customization through global styles

Customized Shadows
The new Custom Shadows feature opens up a whole new range of possibilities for website design. Shadow effects can now be easily created and edited in global styles to add detailed shadows to website elements, which not only enhances the sense of depth on the page, but also provides a richer visual experience for visitors. This detailed shadow effect will make the website look more vivid and interesting.
Block binding: allows editing of post metadata directly in blocks
By using the latest enhancements to the Block Binding API, we can now edit the value of a custom field more easily. Specifically, when a paragraph block is bound to a custom field, there is no need to jump to another interface; you can directly update the value of the custom field associated with it while editing the content of the paragraph. This intuitive operation will greatly improve work efficiency.
