Updating your product catalog is crucial to running a WooCommerce store. What would you do if you needed to add new sizes to all the t-shirts in your store, or raise the price of all the mugs? Manually changing them one by one is not only a hassle but also very time consuming.

It's a good thing that WooCommerce offers bulk updates, which means you can make changes to multiple or all products at once, such as adjusting stock quantities, prices, and more. Not only that, if you have more complex bulk editing needs, you can easily do it with the help of Woo extensions or specialized WooCommerce bulk editing plugins. In this way, you can manage your product catalog more efficiently and conveniently.

When you need to update products in bulk

Learning how to bulk edit WooCommerce products can be very helpful, no matter what size the store is and what kind of products it sells.

For example, if you run a clothing store and want to add size charts to all jackets or want to add a few new colors to t-shirts. If there are a lot of items, you can save a lot of time by using bulk updates of sizes and colors.

Even if you don't intend to change any of the product's features, you may need to update the inventory quantity or price. For example, adding five stock units to each mug, or wanting to give a 10% discount on all jewelry.

Bulk editing doesn't mean that you have to update all products at once. Three ways to update products in bulk

Method 1: Use the native WooCommerce bulk editing feature

With WooCommerce, you can edit products in bulk with just a few easy clicks on your WordPress dashboard. First, click on the "Products" menu and then select "All Products" to see a list of all the products in your store. It's easy and quick.

To bulk edit all products, check the first box on the left (located in thebatch operation(below). All items in the list will be automatically selected.

If you only want to update specific items, click"Select category"menu, and then select the category you want to work with.

Alternatively, items can be filtered by product type. This can come in handy if you only want to edit a specific type of item (e.g. downloadable materials or product bundles).

There is also the option to filter by stock status. Allows you to batch edit items that are in stock, out of stock, or out of inventory.

Whatever you choose, just make sure to subsequently click on the"Filter."button is available. This will refresh the list to show only the products in the category, product type, or status you selected. 

Note that it is possible to use all three filters at the same time. For example, you can select grouped products that are also in stock.

By default, WooCommerce allows you to bulk edit important product data such as price, sales, weight, etc.

The following three options are available when changing prices:

2. Increase in existing price (fixed amount or percentage)
3. Reduction of existing prices (fixed amount or percentage)

To set the same price for all products, you need to select the first option and enter the price.

Similarly, to raise or lower the price, a number needs to be added to the field provided.

Sales Options

It is also possible to bulk edit the sales options for a product. These options include

• change to: You can change the selling price to a specified amount.
• Increase in existing sales price (fixed amount or percentage): You can use this option to increase the current selling price by a fixed amount or percentage.
• Reduction of existing sales price (fixed amount or percentage): Similar to the previous option, you can enter a number or percentage to reduce the current selling price.
• Set to regular price reduction (fixed amount or percentage)): Use this option to override the existing sales price with a new sales price, i.e., reduce the normal price of the item by a fixed amount or percentage.

If you select the last option and leave the Value field blank or enter 0, the sales price of the product is deleted.

These options allow to change the offers and discounts for the selected products.

Taxes and freight

Finally, it is possible to specify whether the products are sold separately or not. If "Yes" is selected, the customer can only purchase one item in an order.

This can be very useful if selling customizable items or limited quantities of customized items.

Once you have made all these changes, click "update". Now, WooCommerce will apply these settings to all the products you selected.

Method 2: Batch Edit Products in Spreadsheet

Another way to bulk update products in WooCommerce is to export them, edit the data in a spreadsheet (using Google Sheets or Excel), and then import the items into your site again. It's a bit complicated, but you can use a Woo extension (e.g.Import Export Suite for WooCommerce)to streamline the process. 

This tool allows you to export and import WooCommerce data as XML or CSV files. The tool needs to be purchased from the Woo marketplace and uploaded to your WordPress site.
